Tagged: Dimensioning rough stock
Hi all
It’ll probably make you guys laugh but I just finished my first commissioned pieces. It isn’t really a real project as such but it was commissioned just as well.
The mother in law has a few garden chairs she really likes but the lovely weather is slowly destroying them. So she asked if I could mill a few pieces to replace the rotten battens.
So I started with a few logs of firewood, a scrub plane, a no 4 and a no 5 and some saws and winding sticks and freshly sharpened rip saws.
It took me some time but had great fun milling rough stock to exact predefined dimensions. All that practice is really paying off.
You like to see pics, so here are some….

Well done! I like the resourcefulness. I bet it was a gratifying feeling to take a raw log and turn it into a finished piece of useful timber. Thanks for sharing.
