Save for two practice scraps to embed the process in my mind, I attempted my very first handcut dovetails this weekend. I figured I would make a box rather than just practice cutting. While I have gotten pretty good at squaring and truing up my boards this made me realize I have room for improvement. I am pleased and motivated to try another and another.
well, as my own harshest critic, theyre easier to spot in person, I also missed some glue on one joint that looks a mess now under shellac. I practiced sawing of other sorts a lot before I attempted any dovetails, mostly out of the fear of failure. I feel if i hadnt put off my first attempt for so long it wouldnt have been as nice. I want to learn everything so fast but I also like to take my time.
