This is my first saw I ever bought in 1984.
As you can see it is a Disston 8 tpi these saws had the most clumbsiest horrible handles ever.
My hand is not small even so my hand could never accomadate this saw handle.
I remember I did take a little off the handle years ago but even that was not enough.
The feeling of this handle always put me off from using it so I always picked up my Spear & Jackson.
Well I decided to get aggressive with saw handle.
I used my Liogier rasps and 180g abrasive paper.
I re shaped handle till it felt good in hand.
I then scrapped all the old varnish off in doing so some of the stain was removed as well.
I put a fair few coats of Dark stain on handle over a couple of days it came to the point where it just would not get any darker.
I then put a few coats of Button polish on handle.
I also cleaned up the Medallion and screw fixings.
I used a 320g pad the plastic type that look like scouring pads.
Put handle back on saw plate and now I feel I have a saw that I would use.
Took 30 years to get there. LOL
