Greetings, all!
I just put the finishing touches on my latest project. It is a sign to be hung on a door.
This is a reclaimed piece of wood (came from an old dresser), so I have no idea of the species. The Pittsburgh skyline was cut out using a coping saw and cleaned up using a chisel. This was my first attempt at carving. I’ve got a lot to work on before it looks great. The paint is acrylic craft paint. One coat of BLO, a few coats of shellac, and some wax to finish it off. The hardware was used to play off a Steel City (Pittsburgh) theme. The coated picture wire was doubled back with heavy duty staples to make it look like couplers.
I’m surprised how it turned out. It looks better than I expected, to be honest. A LOT of learning took place with this! Overall, it was a fun project. Less frustrating than my workbench! I can hope that indicates some skill improvement.
