Well, the lady of the house land us a catch on a pure breed Devon Rex and it was time to replace the old baby gate we used to keep our large (100 and 75 pound) dogs out of the guest quarters of the house, thus I got the task of building a new gate. After a little math I figured out Isould be able to pull it off with a single standard 8′ 2×6 from Home Depot. I figured a little resawing and I could save about 20 bucks on the gate.
Well I was mostly right, the little resawing turned in to a lot of resawing, as I did it with a 7 tpi 26″ craftsman. I was smart enough to sharpen it before hand fortunately. Things I learned; first I need a good “portable bench” for the indoor house projects, second I need to get a 4 tpi rip saw.
The first 4 feet came out pretty well, the last 2 feet got a bit rough as I had no good way to secure the board. Still a bit of work with a #5, and it should serve the need.

@mattmcgrane –
Not much to issue with the warping, a lot of issue with forgetting to flatten the faces to be sure of my thickness. I ended up with mostly 5/8 off one side and 1/2 stock from the other after the resaw. Original board had a slight cupping that did not seem bad at over an 1 1/2 think but skewed the recut line more of center than I expected.Unfortunately, the gate is about to become a full size door. The cat has no sense of self-preservation so needs to be protected from himself.
