I got this old no.7 today, it had some surface rust and a chip on top of the handle so I paid £43 for it. Looks like it’s manufactured sometime between 1910 and 1918. The blade is on its last legs and the lever cap has some chips on the edge, but it cleaned up nicely and the sole looks pretty straight.
I just got a new lever cap for the #7, sharpened the blade and it works great now. The sole is pretty good, it’s hard to get it perfectly flat so I’ll settle for “flat enough”. It takes beautiful thin shavings from oak at least.
The latest score is an old Stanley #4C (Made in England) and a #3-sized Sargent.
I have to stop buying more planes now. But I just found a no.6C for £30 so it’s coming home with me 🙂
