I have a Lie Nielsen no 49 and lately it binds up while making the tongue, every time even after a few strokes. The blade is honed square, and everything seems in order as far as I can tell. I really don’t know what’s wrong, but it’s driving me nuts. Anyone have ideas?

How is it binding up? Sounds like the fence maybe out of square to the center rail or the blade is not quite lined up right.

It looks like it’s binding because the tongue is getting wider as it goes then the plane will bind up. I can take some off the sides of the tongue with a bullnose, then I can keep going but it is very frustrating.

ehisey may be correct, and if that’s the case, something is wrong with the plane manufacture.
I’d be inclined to call Lie Nielsen and chat the problem over with them.

Thanks for the advise, I talked with Lie Nielsen and the piece in between the blade was too wide causing the blade to flair out. I filed it down just slightly and it seems to be working great now.

I happy to hear it worked out well for you.
