In one of the videos (I’m sorry for not having that detail handy) Paul makes reference to making a Bee Hive I believe. Is there any chance there’s a video series available or in future videos ? I would love to get his insight into this. It’s growing in popularity, and while the design elements aren’t anything overly complicated, I would love to see Pauls take on the building of these.
6 November 2015 at 3:58 am #132077I”m glad others feel the same way. Paul mentioned bee hive again in the Assembly bench episode 3. Perhaps Joseph will mention this to Paul. I”m sure there will be nothing new to learn as far as technique or joinery, but I would love to get Paul’s insight on it.
5 March 2016 at 6:38 pm #135363I too would be interested in a bee hive build by Paul. I did find some very good videos by Jon Peters on Youtube.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4qvPZaOXFo
After considerable research, I decided on the top bar bee hive. I have one built and three more under construction. I modified Jon’s design a little, but his design is a good starting place. Hope everyone finds this to be useful information.
CarlI guess PS is not reading this hence no official response. I have just been stung for £185 for a new national beehive. Just think of the tools I could have bought with this. What I have done however is carefully drawn round each piece of the new flat pack self assembly hive onto mount board and made a set of patterns. latter on this year I will have a go and see if they work.
14 June 2016 at 10:53 am #137818Hello @silenthill and others,
Sorry we didn’t notice this earlier, we try to keep on top of the forums as time allows.Thank you all for you input and enthusiasm. I mentioned it to Paul and we feel that it is a bit too exclusive for us to invest the time and energy it would need at the moment. I wish you all the best in your hive building.
Best,
Phil20 June 2016 at 10:01 pm #137977I was inspired by the previous post and tried designing one myself. It is also a top bar hive.
Most beehives you find online are a few planks screwed together. Being easy and cheap to make is one of their strong-points.
I tried to make mine with a bit more joinery. Can you guys give me some feedback on the sketchup file I included?
Thanks!

You must be logged in to view attached files.I don’t know much about bee keeping at all, but I know here in Germany most hives are square to accommodate standard frame sizes. My brother-in-law keeps bees and he made some screwed together hives. If I was to make a “nicer” version, I’d keep the basic structure but use joinery instead of screws.
