Finally got this finished – sapele seat (10” x 15”) and ash legs (10”). The seat was shaped using a James Mursell travisher.
The finish is several thin coats of tung oil (Liberon) and beeswax (Liberon Bison, Clear). The grain on the seat is very twisted (especially on the left-hand side).
Made a big mistake in letting the ridge extend from the front to the back leg instead of being about a third/half the length from the front.
Cheers, Paul.
Love it, Paul. Great work. The seat has a very nice, warm tone to it.
Looks fantastic – that sepele is really nice looking! As far as the ridge is concerned, if it makes a big difference in comfort, it’s not too late to remove some of it. Will you do that?
Matt, I might take it back into the workshop and re-do it. On the other hand I’ve got enough sapele left over to do another one.
I had Paul Seller’s book right in front of me and can’t belief I made such a basic mistake.
