Hi,
I just bought an acrylic painting on canvas by a local artist and thought it would be fun to make a frame for it myself.
The Photo shows a detail from one of the corners. The frame will be gilded in gold leaf and finished with button polish. Custom frames can be very expensive so this is one project that is well worth the time investment. I was able to use some pine offcuts that were cluttering the workshop so there has been essentially no material cost so far.

I did a couple of frames for my professional teaching certificate. Splined miter joints, not to fancy..
Thank you. I used a Stanley 45 for the basic profile and then a coping saw blade dragged along the grain to produce the ridged detail. The inside flat section was made from some thin tongue and groove board offcuts.
I’m thinking that a basic grasp of wood carving would be a good skill to acquire if I’m going to make any more of these.
