Mark they look so tidy i find if i’m practicing joints they need to be on a project or i never get it anywhere near right .
11 May 2014 at 9:23 pm #57022I can do it when I put my mind to it.
I have not done any joinery in a while. So while I have been off sick had a little Practise.Really nice work there Mark. You’ve reminded me of the display board that used to be up in the Design & Technology building at my old school (in the olden days as my daughter calls them). The Woodworking teachers made all these example joints similar to the way you’ve done them so they could: A) show off their skills a bit and B) show us all what each joint was called and how it fitted together.

I had a very strict woodwork teacher but he did take me under his wing a bit. When I was leaving School (Mr Pyne) lol my woodwork teacher did try and push me to get a course at the London College of furniture. After several interviews at college I was told I was not academic enough for course I was applying for. At the time I was not told that there was any other courses I could have done. It was only till later I had found out there was other courses I could have done. By that time I had taken a slightly different path into carpentry & joinery and ended up life in construction industry jack of all trades Master of none. 🙁
I have big regrets about that time when I was a young boy leaving school lack of information given to me. All I ever wanted is to become a furniture/cabinetmaker.
I doubt it will ever happen as I do not have the resources or quite the level of skill required which takes some years.
As a hobbyist I think I am reasonably competent and have got better over the last two and a half years.
Here is my latest practise joint a splined mitreAttachments:
