Greetings All,
I’ve got a brand new 10″ York vise from LV. It tracks straight and bucks up tight but after turning the handle CCW for release or opening/closing (doesn’t matter where on the opening span), the ‘counter-weight block’ rotates CW a little while sliding the vise open or closed and drags on the threads. Not smooth at all and makes a heck of a noise. I took the cover off and can swing the block back CCW and hold it there, then everything is great. Almost like it swings too easy. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.
AL .

Bob L.3 August 2016 at 10:53 am #139034I have the same problem with my vise from fine-tools.com. You really have to give it a good push/pull to open or close it. And then it makes a loud rattling noise.
After using the vise for a year I contacted Fine-Tools and we agreed to send it back
so they could have a look at it. According to them they found nothing abnormal an told
me the some vises make more noise than others.
I got my vise back but it still has the same problems.Korneel
3 August 2016 at 7:25 pm #139056I checked my LV vise today and it ratchets when opening and closing a quiet sound not harsh it does not grab while doing it but the noise is there.
4 August 2016 at 2:44 am #139070I have the same vise and have not had that problem. As Bob said, contact Lee Valley. I’m sure they will either repair or replace it.
4 August 2016 at 5:23 am #139076Well, I may have fixed the problem. Fiddled around with it today. I bent the little spring tab to apply more pressure on the round pin. Made things worse. Slacked tab off to almost no pressure and it was whisper quiet but wouldn’t engage the threads properly when clamping. Removed pin and filed a smidge off the end, re-installed with spring tab putting pressure on it and it seems to work. Not whisper quiet but very acceptable and nice and smooth. Thanks for the replies fellas. Appreciate it.
