I picked up an old workbench on gumtree in Ireland, mostly for the 9 inch quick release record vise. They’re hard to come by in my neck of the woods. It’s an old joiners bench and for some reason it was very low at 30 inches high. So I decided to raise it up by 8 inches. I contacted the Paul Sellers team to ask them what the best way was. They suggested using a sleeve around each leg with blocks of wood dimensioned to fit the existing legs. I ended out merging that idea with someone else’s where they suggested using a plywood sheet across the entire outside of the legs to give stability. Anyway photos attached in case anyone wanted to raise their bench beyond a couple inches. It’s not pretty but it is rock solid.
That’s great, Ballinger. I’d thought about how to raise a bench an inch or two, but never thought too much about much higher. That’s a nice solution. And it’s a workbench – if it’s solid, that’s what matters. Who cares what it looks like.
And it came with a nice Record 52 1/2 vise. That’s probably the best part of it. Congrats.
