Hi all i’m just about to go out to get my set of three rasps i can’t justify Auriou prices as yet ,so i’m going for the Narex has anyone here used them or has any experiance them thanks in advance

,I have never used them Eddy. Paul is trying one, this is what he had to say.
I just tried out a Narex rasp and am still in the middle of testing, it costs about one tenth the cost of the Auriou and cuts wood fast but definitely does not have the feel of the Auriou. I want to test out more as I say, but I think that the Auriou is hard to beat!
25 October 2013 at 5:11 pm #20370cheers Ken i’m going to give the Narex a go as they seem very reasonably priced, cheap even as opposed to Auriou, at pennies under ÂŁ17 each i think that is a decent enough price to give something a go if i take to it and start making a few bob then maybe invest in the best .

,28 October 2013 at 3:43 pm #20467Eddy, Please update once you’ve used them for a while. While I’d love an Auriou rasp, I lack the funding to get them at the moment. If the Narex work well for you, I could probably afford to pick up one of those instead for the time being.

28 October 2013 at 3:50 pm #20468I bought a couple of the Liogier Rasps a couple years back, I have been really pleased with them, they cut really well. They were a bit less expensive than the Auriou Rasps.

,28 October 2013 at 6:03 pm #20476I would be interested in hearing about them. Tools for working wood (in the states) make them too. A little cheaper than Auriou. I when I need one, I will go with TFWF, since they are local to me. The only problem with buying the cheap tool, is when you have to buy the better tool, it just got way more expensive. I bought a real cheap carving gouge. It is useless. Now when I buy the gouge PS recommends its now even more expensive.
29 October 2013 at 11:03 am #20536I notice Bacho do a half round cabinet rasp. for only ÂŁ11.99. does anyone know if they are any good? Paul rates the bacho files but are the rasps as good and is a “cabinet” rasp the right sort?
Would love to know as the more expensive rasp is possible but is a bit expensive!!!
Mick29 October 2013 at 11:48 am #20538hi Mick i dont think you could go wrong at that price, a cabinet rasp is the sort we have been shown in the videos, ive used a couple of differant Bahco products and none of them have ever disapointed good luck

,29 October 2013 at 5:19 pm #20560I have one of the bahco half-round rasps that I am planning to try out on the walking staff I am making at the moment, so will let you know how it goes. It is nowhere near as wide or fine as the Auriou, or quite as wide as the narex, but will try to compare and contrast them for you.

30 October 2013 at 12:12 pm #20586Brilliant, Phil! Please let us know what you think of it as soon as you can. The cane video starts today and I for one am keen to get started but don’t want to be using a rasp that is not fit for purpose and As I have zero rasp experience your view will be very much valued.
Mick7 November 2013 at 4:06 pm #20998Well i have tried the Bahcho rasp and though it is the first experience that I have with any rasp I am going to make a call that it is a bit rough. Therefore I have bought the auriou (love how Paul struggles to say it) 4 in one. Will let you know if it was a good idea when it arrives.
