This is a coin cabinet for numismatics. It’s made with African mahogany. Drawer box sides are maple wood. The hardware is brass, except the inner drawer pulls which are cocobolo wood turned on the lathe.
I also have moments of making this piece. These moments are on my Instagram for now.
Many thanks to Paul and the masterclasses family for inspiration throughout years.
That is a truly beautiful job Jake! Anyone would be proud to claim that pieceđź‘Ť
Well done! As Harry states…TRULY beautiful job. May I ask how many hours it took you to complete? Could you provide a link to your Instagram?
Thanks Harry and Kurt!
It took me about 200 hours in making it, but really about 10 weeks — two weeks for dreaming, deciding how to cut to gain visual effect.
This was a custom project to meet their needs for preserving precious metals. The client loves it.

I used five coat of shellac—-I think it wasn’t a heavy cut since I used blonde shellac flakes without an exact formula. Then buffed with a trewax paste wax—the mahogany colored kind.
