In September I found a well priced Record 53E vice (with the screw cover intact) on ebay after looking for two years. Overall, the vice is in good working order and required only minimal cleanup. There is one issue that I did not notice in the auction pictures. The quick release lever appears to be for a No 52. It is shorter, has a tighter radius to the curve than what I can find in online images for other No 53’s, and there is considerable slop around the lever shaft in the front casting when I disconnect the bar. Also, when the slot is aligned with the bar of the quick release mechanism, it interferes with the main screw handle unless I rotate it 180 deg. But, then I cannot use the quick release with one hand.
Anyway, missing that detail is on me. I am trying to locate a correct No 53 QR lever so I can correct this less than stellar repair. Does anyone know where I can purchase one? I am looking on ebay. However, in the States, these vices don’t come up that often. I did contact the seller to see if he could point me in the right direction.

I’m sorry that I just ran across this. For others reading this and for future purchases on eBay- I would have pushed the problem back on the seller. I don’t see how you could have caught that from the pictures and if the vice was sold in “working order” it is not buyer beware.
Just my opinionI did contact the seller. He offered some monetary compensation. Looking at the photo I should have been able to catch the issue since the lever is 180 deg from where it should be. The seller was very apologetic and I would buy from them again. As with most ebay sellers he had no idea what he was selling. I did get teh vice for a very fair price (~ $150 less than the sale price of others have been watching) so I am not too upset. I can make a new lever but I would rather have an OEM handle. Again, if anyone comes across one I would gladly purchase it.
