Greetings, everyone!
I was given some wood. I am wondering if it is useable/safe. I received 3 6’x3’x1 5/8″ laminated slabs. The guy who gave them to me said they were maple. That said, they look pretty beat up. Apparently, they were stored in a very wet/moldy basement, stood on end. I cut a 3 1/2′ piece off of the worst board just to plane down and see what it looked like underneath the surface. I’ve enclosed pics of the cutaway and a sample of how it looked beforehand.
My concern is the part that was on the concrete. It is the 12-18″ section from the bottom edge. After working it over with my #5, I can still see grey in the wood. Is it safe? Should I just cut off the bottom foot or two?
What do you all think? I’d like to make some small tables out of it. Is it useable?
