Rough work with a joinery ax/hatchet, anyone else doing this?

Mostly curious, as I just started doing this working with “firewood stock”. Between splitting, riving, and the chopping to line, I discovered you can get the wood ready for a #4 really quick. Not sure if I would do this with good board stock since you can reuse the chop off, but it is surprisingly fast work

A lot of traditional southern african wood carving is done almost exclusively with an axe and knife.
There is even a company that makes high-end ball and claw tables using only regular axes and knives to shape the wood. All the legs are perfect copies of eachother, and look exactly like the European made original.
Yes! I love my axe for taking down stock. Sometimes when there’s a little more than I’d like to plane down, but not enough to save after sawing, Axing it away makes quick work, if your grain will cooperate of course. But you can count me in for the axe. Love it. Cheers. Kevin.
