I got some red oak for cheap and figured it would be just the thing for a saw bench. The design is loosely based on the one in the “Unplugged Workshop” book. I used the table saw to dimension the stock (I didn’t have a saw bench 🙂 ), but did the rest with hand tools. I have a little bit of final smoothing and sanding to do and I need to apply a finish. I’m fairly pleased with it.
I would not choose red oak again, at least until I’m more experienced. It’s quite hard and very course grained so not hand tool friendly. (at least for me).
Here are some pictures.
That’s great mate I’ve been meaning to make one from the book but haven’t gotten around to it, I have one Ive been using for a while but still Tom’s version is my favourite.
