I am in the process of cleaning up/restoring a 28 inch Diston miter box saw. The handle has 4 screws 3 standard and one medallion. The inside of the medallion nut seem to have broken free. The center of the medallion is turning. Im looking for input on how to remove it if anyone has had a similar problem. Thanks
Have you got the nut off?
If so, a centre punch from the nut side will get the medallion out.
If not, and the nut is just spinning, that is more complicated.
You could drill the nut out by widening the hole around the stem, then going to the centre punch.
Darren.
If you have a wooden double screw clamp, drill a 3/4” hole on one jaw and clamp the handle so you can reach the slotted side with a screwdriver.
The pressure will stop the blind nut or medallion from spinning.. if you need a little more “stiction” , put a slice of bike inner tube over the medallion first.
You will still be able to use the clamp for normal clamping purposes. It has worked for me every time.
