I do not have room in my workshop for a dedicated sharpening station and I always found it a bit of a pain clearing space on my bench ( I am not the tidiest worker) so I made the following unit that does not use any of the bench space it has a baton attached underneath that I hold in the vice.
Thanks for you comments I suppose it is obvious but I did not say that I only put the sharpening station in to the vice when I need to sharpen a tool
I like it David…well done. I’m always looking for space saving ideas as well.
I have a very tight space need to do something like that.
I have scary kit as well 😉
I do like my T7 Tormek water cooled grinder though.
great idea david .do you use lapping film as well as the diamond plates and how does it work for you? i am having problems trying to get a convex bevel paul talks about
Hi David
I do tend to use both I have the option with the lapping film to also add some courser wet and dry I used some 120 grit to polish the grinding marks out of the sole of the No 80 scraper plane I have just got. I tend to use my Veritas honing guide with the film and the diamond plates for re grinding chisels and plane irons using Paul’s method, After lapping the tools on the diamond plates I may then use a very fine film to finish with. It is handy to have both methods available in the same unit
