Being a subscriber, I learned how to chop a mortise with a bevel edge chisel from Paul. I recently bought a mortise chisel to see the difference in technique for myself. Save yourself the money and stick with Paul’s method using a bevel edge. It’s much easier and cleaner and in my opinion superior.
I would add one caveat to this. The mortising chisels comes in handy when you are doing very deep mortise in thicker stocker as you don’t have to worry about bending the chisel. For most stuff though, I also find the Paul’s bevel method works as well or better.
