Renovated three Hogboo’s still one to do.
These saws have exceptional steel a little harder than most but hold edge for longer. Also they have plastic handles.
These saws were a favourite of many carpenters 30-40 years ago.
The down saws is they wear out saw files quite quickly.Attachments:

5 October 2014 at 7:46 pm #118935Hi Eddy,
They had a little rust on them pitting was minimal.
I used 100, 120, 180, 240, 320, 400, grit abrasive papers then finished with a 1500 grit abrasive Pad. Sharpened and set saws.
The cost I got two red handled saws for £26 each including P&P
The two Blue grey handled saws I got together for £34 including P&P
There is a mint Hogboo on ebay now starting at £115 I’m a little tempted.

Don’t go down the route I go. I just can’t help myself and I doubt I will ever change.
I like new tools as well as the old.
Restoring tools give me real satisfaction that has been where I have been at the last few months.
As for making anything apart with having a stab at making a mallet that all I have done in a while.
My lack of inspiration and the small space I have to work in really restricts what I can make.12 October 2014 at 7:48 pm #119416Eddy If you ever see a Sandvik Hogboo floating about I suggest well worth having.
This saw cuts very well it’s about 10 tpi cross cut.
I sharpen all the saws I get so in the end it’s up to user to keeps saws in good working order. -
