Spoon Butter Recipe – Food Safe Finish

Spotted this while browsing the web. Thought it might interest those making spoons, cutting boards, etc. Food Safe finish
Ive read a similar recipe using mineral oil and beeswax. I might try the orange scented finish here, although i like the idea of providing a small bit of finish to include with a gift of spoons.

I make my own with beeswax and mineral oil. You can buy a big block of beeswax from a health food store…much cheaper than getting it in a woodworking store. Trial and error melting the wax and adding in the min oil to get a soft but solid consistency.
Don’t add any scents as the concoction smells like honey….you can rub it in with your hands…
Picked some of the orange wax from lee valley yesterday, smells nice, very light, wife loves it, covers very nicely, and note on back of can makes specific reference to use on open pore wood. Not sure ‘why’ its so special, likely just marketing however it will get a good test over the holidays.
