Bog standard Stanley No 5 Apart from just flattening and honing the Iron / blade, I have done nothing to it. Taking nice thin shavings no problem at all.
I think he was just loving the fact that there’s such nice shavings coming out of the plane and wanted to share it with other like minded people. That’s reason enough for me 🙂
Ed,
I think you’ve picked the right word- Joy.
There’s something viscerally satisfying about bringing an old tool back to life that I think many miss out on. Guess I just like the simple things in life.
Best,
Craig
I just rewatched Paul’s video on restoring a plane before setting to work on two No. 5 Stanleys I found recently. I use a No. 5 exclusively as I find a No. 4 too small in my hands. Seeing these two beauties come back to life with a little elbow grease made Saturday’s the time at the bench a wonderful way to waste a day.
Cheers lads,
Wil
