Started My First Cane

John, looked at the website, looks like a well stocked place. That’s nice how you have the offcuts from the milling available. I’m just starting to explore the options in my area for lumber, but right off the bat I notice it’s tons better for getting what you want/need than the local HD.

Well Christmas of 2013 has come and gone, I did finish the cane and gave it as a gift.
I use two coats of shellac and two coats of poly. I was surprise how much the grain popped.
I did not put a twist in the cane, I almost feel like it wasn’t done because of that. It was well received and got a lot of compliments.
I am looking forward to making more. I have purchase some different hardwoods to make more canes. Maybe after the busy holidays.

Looks good John, they are a fun project I have made a second one but am waiting for the delivery of my Liogier rasp to produce the twist I could do it with the rasps I have but I want to do a comparrison and hopefully see the difference a hand cut rasp makes
