I just found out about this site as I was researching what it would take to get into woodworking. I know most of your projects are much grander, but since I am just starting out, I am very proud I was able to plane to square a block of rosewood and make one of the dovetail templates Paul shows in the video below. I made some (mostly) straight cuts with a saw, so I seem to be improving by using the methods I’ve seen Paul use in many of his videos.

I’m starting to build a small workbench for my apartment, and a larger workbench for a shared space I have access to will follow. I’m hoping in the next few months I can work through some of these master class projects and start to catch up to all of you guys posting awesome projects on this website, time and funding permitting.
Glad to join the community, and hopefully you’ll see some major improvement in both the scale and quality of my projects in the near future.

16 August 2013 at 2:44 pm #16645I made my dovetail template a year ago out of a scrap of walnut. I think it was the first pure hand tool project I had accomplished using a plane and chisel. I showed it off to my kids and they thought I was crazy, lol.
Congratulations on yours!
Welcome to this crazy clan! Enjoy the projects, post pictures of them, and have some fun!

Welcome to the site, Tim. Nice dovetail template.
You just reminded me that I should get off my duff and make my own DT template. Up until now I’ve been using a craftsman made one that was sent to me as a bonus gift from a ebay auction. I feel like I am cheating since I did not make it myself. 😉
