I personally think this is a good masterclasses project although it could have been scheduled in before the other more complex table projects. It is one of the easier projects that can be tackled with very limited wood working experience with very few tools but still resulting in a very attractive finished table. I made my oak table whilst attending one of Paul’s courses at Penrhyn castle; looking back at the photos I had from the course brought back memories of the course and what a brilliant location the castle was for a woodworking workshop. Attending the course identified to me Paul’s exceptional teaching skills, the guy in the light shirt and glasses had managed to complete the making of his Oak table in three days, the only other woodworking experience he had was attending an earlier Paul three day course making the candle box and the small wall unit. The only wood working tools he had at home was a bow saw for trimming bushes.
To be able to take somebody from 0 skill to an oak table in 6 days was I thought something special.
As Paul states using the same method it is possible to turn out any number of different tables, I have since made a shorter more rectangular portable TV table in pine for my sister and a bedside table with a shelf for my daughter also in pine.
I would urge any of the members that have not done too many of the projects to have a go at this one, not only do you not require a lot of wood working experience or have to have a huge amount of tools if made in a soft wood will not cost a lot in materials The total material cost of the TV table was £13.65
Just for interest also on the same course was a quite famous UK actor Phillip McGough amongst a lot of other thinks he played Arnie in The Chain gang episode of Dell Boy, he was an interesting guy.Attachments:
