I miss my dead line (that would be today)….
But yesterday I had some good laughs…The day before when I was mixing my shellac, I was in a rush. So I mix it with 90% denature alcohol – instead the regular bottle of 96% alcohol was empty and to late to go to the store.
So the shellac had some smell… that’s ok the garage/shop had good ventilation (so I thought)
When I was applying my first coat I started being warm… then a bit red on my cheeks, and a very good mood… laughing…
Then I realized I was getting “drunk”…I must say I don’t drink alcohol, not even a beer. I got drunk twice in the army and said never more.
Immediately I opened the windows and left the garage.
My wife had a blast mocking me all evening. There’s a picture of my progress.

It was a great project.
But when I was finish and looking to my mistakes I realized I was ready for star all over and do it the proper way.
My wife told me I was a full because that was lovely and extra smooth (shellac with wax never fails)PS: I miss my budget because yesterday I bought the hinge (5 euros)
So the final amount was 38 euros chestPPS Yes, even my dovetails are far from the Paul’s accuracy, I’m proud with myself that’s why the sharing!
Happy shavings, happy joinery, and a Happy New Year to all!

7 January 2015 at 12:52 am #123167A most interesting project to see, very sturdy and spacious.
All the joints look so nice, as well as the proportions of the box.
Congratulations Antonio!Thanks

@rickcorradiniAlthough it’s very similar to the present Master Classes Chest it was a bit inspired in an old “salgadeira” (big wooden pine chests that were used to store salted fish or meat in my great-grand-mother’s house)
The ones I saw got nails to secure the dovetails, like Paul wrote in a blog a while back!I wasn’t very sure about the proportions, so I played a bit with the “feet/skirt” until I was happy with the looks 🙂
Once more thank you all for the comments and the support.
And…
Thank You Mr Sellers, and this School for your teachings and sharing the knowledge that allow me the basics to really DID IT! -
