    Hi guys,

I just won a 16″ Disston handsaw on eBay with a local bidding service in Taiwan. The price is pretty good. The thing is, they then told me that they can’t ship it from California to Taiwan because the saw blade is longer than 30cm and thus the international shipping (export) is prohibited. I doubt it, and asked some saw sellers on eBay and they have no problems shipping saws internaionally. Is it real that a 16″ woodworking handsaw can’t be shipped internationally?

Sorry Danny, don’t know. But is sure seems bogus to me. There really shouldn’t be any problem with shipping. After all, there are lots of larger items on eBay that get shipped all over the world.

Who is telling you this? The seller? I agree with Matt and you should (1) put in a complaint or contact eBay, because they would certainly know about that sort of limitation. In the meantime, ask postal officials in Taiwan– they would certain know about such limitations. It sounds like a con game to me, especially if you already paid for the saw. If you are mad about it, then keep asking the question until someone gives you an answer.

Agree with above. Did you already remit payment?

I have had a much larger 100 year old saw shipped to me from Japan and it arrived with no problem.

I think that is hogwash, the seller seems like he don’t want to bother trying to ship it. I would file a complaint as well and I hope you didn’t all ready pay for it or if you did get your money back ASAP.
