Y’all, I made the ugliest spoon that has ever been made. In the video On spoons Paul said part of the idea of making spoon was to teach you about the grain in wood and how it behaves. I went out to the firewood pile and picked up what I thought would make a really nice spoon. I worked on this thing for several evenings. I learned that what ever this piece of junk was, the grain changed direction about every 1/2 inch. And in some cases it would change with every stroke of the spoke shave. So what I learned most about this piece of wood and anything that looks even remotely like it, is that it is going to make a really good piece of firewood….
Sometimes it’s uphill both ways…looks like you salvaged it though.
I gouged through the bottom of the bowl on my first one. You did a good job. Nice.
i hope mine are that ugly you are doing yourself a great injustice in my opinion.
Looks pretty good to me. My first and only spoon didn;t even get that far I gave to the dog to chew on
