Hi, a few questions in preparation for my build š
Which wood have others built this in besides cherry? Have you used a secondary timber for non-show faces (for example beech for the drawers or internal frame)? I’m considering using beech for the frame and drawer back and sides. On the top, sides and drawer faces i’m stuck between, cherry, ash, oak or sapele. I like the contrast in colours, so maybe not ash.
Also, my local timber yard offers hardwoods in 19 or 25mm thickness – not the 22mm on the plans. Has anyone had to go up or down in sizing, and how did that work out?
Thanks very much, Ged

Chances are Paul started with 25mm and then resized it to 22mm in the process of surfacing it true. Also Pauls method of using the material itself to size his joints makes it much easier to use material of slightly different sizes. This is a whole new concept for me, coming from a machine woodworking background. I’m liking it.
As far as material goes, can you buy a small amount of each kind of wood to apply finish to and see how you like various combinations? Nothing like looking at the real deal as opposed to other folks opinions. -
