LOLmadeira is the portuguese word for wood
So my “avatar” is “coisas em madeira” = wooden made stuff/things
It was my 1st carving in a board 馃檪Madeira is also the name of the Portuguese island in the Atlantic Ocean.
I never had been there but as you may already guessed the island was named after the sailors went there in 1418 an saw a LOT of wood! 馃檪Yes The Madeira Island “produced” CR7 and also have the “Madeira wine” very famous and similar to “Oporto wine”!
You can read more about it here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MadeiraIn Portugal the wooden built tradition of boats/ships and houses long gone!
Just a very few craftsman still live. So most of our wood is for produce paper, and cork.We have vast lands with mono culture of pine, eucalyptus, a small part up north with oaks, poplar, boxwood etc- almost a proper forest – and a lot of olive and cork oak trees in south. Fruit trees all over from orange trees to walnut.
Keep those photos coming. The cabinet is very nice so far!
Little update. Drawers all finished. Testing new tools – Veritas router plane – real joy to use. Quick and good fitted tenons at last! Whole project is takeing too much time. New project is coming – six board chest – really six board! This pine boards are around 20 years of air drying and almost 50 cm wide. Yea!
