Hey Jonathan, yes thats the board I made when I was watching Paul’s DVD series, that sharpening board is so handy to have and makes sharpening a quick and simple process.
Right now all my frequently used tools are installed into their respective places. I still have lots of room for more tools which is a bonus. I’m sure as I use the cabinet I’ll make more adjustments. Next on the to do list is drawer making and dovetails 🙂
It sure is amazing how quick things seems to go with just an investment of a couple hours of building each day. Its a good way to unwind after work.
Eric, no the doors are an extra 2.5 inches. I edge glued two 1×6 pine boards so they made it almost 11 inches but they arent quite 5 1/2 wide. I used 1 by 3 for the door frames with edge glued boards for the panels that I grooved into the sides of the 1×3. When fitting tools into the doors it does not leave alot of clearance. So i would consider what you want to mount onto the doors and then decide whether you want deeper doors. 1×4 might be a better size if you intend to put larger tools into the door.
Three drawers finished and one more dovetail corner on the fourth drawer and its finished. I’m planning on just drilling 1 inch holes as drawer pulls so that will basically finish the main cabinet body. Next plan is to build a stand for the cabinet and will use some 2×3 pine for the carcass. The stand will enclose a small shelving unit so I can store some larger items like my cordless drill and all those small boxes I’m going to make from the latest training videos 🙂

Began chopping mortises last night for the stand. Took me awhile to decide what I wanted to do but ended up deciding on a removable single enclosed shelf that will sit inside the frame. This tool cabinet is my first ever furniture project aside from the ones in Pauls books and its been a lot of fun building. The fun has just begun!
Here you go Michael 🙂 Proof!
I have quite a few Mortises and Tenons to cut and I decided to install a drawer into the front of the stand. I have an extra piece of birch that will fit. I have a few more rubbermaid tubs to rummage through to see what else I can put into the cabinet but I think they are mostly mechanical tools but who knows what I will find.
