I had full intentions of getting this finished this week but alas, I have a request to make someone a cane. So thats taking me away from my tool chest project.
The only thing I have to do really is to make a couple more trays for it and fit a few more saws into it.

Jay, if you are referring to the drill box, it rests on the till rails, hand planes are on the bottom.
Finished up the last of the trays for my tool chest. Decided to add in a chisel rack so I put that in as well. Installing the last of my saws into the lid will be done this week.
24 March 2014 at 3:22 am #33732It is looking phenomenal Dave. It’s destined to be a heirloom work of craftsmanship.
Thanks for the votes of confidence gentlemen! I’ll tell you this is becoming a test of patience lol I have finally fitted all the saws into the lid for now.
Since I added the chisel rack I realized my sharpening box is too wide, so I will make a carrying tote like Pauls christmas video last year to replace the original box. Plans made at the last minute end up creating more work! If I end up not wanting the chisel rack it is easily removed.

It really looks top notch and capacious. I have a few q’s:
1) Do ALL of your tools fit in there? Looks like more than just the essentials…
2) How heavy is that sucker?
3) Are those Wenzloff panel saws that I see? I love the look of those saws, but they’re always on backorder and I don’t have the guts to splurge.
You have earned that fine chest. Enjoy!
28 March 2014 at 12:42 am #38139Very,very nice Dave. Congratulations! It looks really good. I am amazed at how many tools you can squeeze in there.
Scott, yes all my tools fit in it. I should count. Essential tools, whats that? lol But yes there are none essential tools, things like extra tape measures, jewellers screwdrivers, callipers etc but they are all essential to me 🙂
Its on 3 inch caster wheels and moves around quite easily, I wouldn’t want to try to pick it up as my guess would be several hundred pounds when loaded.
Those are wenzloff panel saws and were xmas gifts last year 🙂 nice saws but my favourite is that big rip saw in the lid.
The design is from Tony Konovaloff and his chest was in the Toolbox Book. He’s a real nice fellow and answered many of my questions when I had them.
its 40x24x24
Greg, thanks, the nice thing about it is when its closed up I have a nice drawing table 😉

28 March 2014 at 2:38 pm #38327Qu te a piece of work Dave! You say that the chisel rack is removable? does it ride on slides like the rest of the tills?
Cheers
