This will be of more use to us UK guys, but you can now buy toothed plane blades from Workshop Heaven.

Cheers 😉
The website describes the blades as “also used for preparing the groundwork for veneers when using traditional glues.” This is misleading, as there are two different types of toothed blades for veneer preparation and straightening difficult timbers. I am not sure which type of blade workshop heaven is selling.
This blog entry explains it best.
Preparing Groundwork for Veneering
Before I make a statment that any company is misleading you, I always like to check with the company for their response.
I contacted Workshop Heaven on this matter, answer as follows,
Hi Ken,
If you look at the shape of the teeth the coarse ‘billy bob’ ones are square and the fine ones are triangular. The German ones are big and triangular – so you can adjust the surface finish as required by simply taking a lighter or heavier cut.
If you are applying veneers with anything more modern than yellow glue / PVA , there is no advantage in toothing the substrate as the glue is already “stronger than the wood itself”.
Cheers
