Kelly,
What a great video. In an age of drones, robots and high tech science these skills will disappear unless we make an effort to preserve them. No one will ever freeze in those structures. Hard to tell what the floor insulation is. Looked like wood ash and also sawdust. I assume it was wool they used with the moss in the wall insulation.
Does anyone speak Finnish who could add to this?
Joe B.
Yeah, the video has an icon next to the “about” and “share” icons … it has the text of the narration … whata-ya-call-it … transcribed. Yeah that’s it.
Hover your mouse in the lower right hand corner of the video (above). When you see the youtube logo, click it. It should take you to the youtube site where you can see those icons I’m talking about.
Anyway … they did mention saw dust being used under the floor …or somewhere.
That cabin looked like a blend between a log cabin and timber framing. I’d like to build something along those lines someday. Maybe I’ll build my shop like that someday … maybe.
Did anyone happen to see the Werner Herzog documentary, Happy People? There is some really cool footage of a hunter building his little hunting cabing using basically just an axe. Definitely an interesting watch, if you get the chance.
There are some other nice woodworking moments in that movie as well.
Thanks Kelly, Its also posted here
