Here is a chest of drawers I’ve been working on to help contain my tools in the workshop. I just need to finish a quick sand on the middle drawer and I will finish with Danish oil and shellac. For whatever reason I’ve been having a hard time making tight dovetails. I go from being to tight to gappy real quick. Same with fitting drawer fronts. I go from tight to gappy really quick. I guess practice will make perfect!
Thanks for looking!

I decided to go with the half moon shaped drawer pulls, because this will be sitting underneath the workbench, I didn’t want anything protruding from the chest itself.. (my workbench is a little different design that Paul’s and does not have an apron) I was worried I would bang my knees on the handles. At first I was going to cut the drawer pulls out with a coping saw, and started too, but I decided to just make relief cuts and use a chisel to knock the waste out and refine it with a rasp and sandpaper. Turns out to be a really quick way of making the drawer pulls.
Also, the sides of the chest are made with peg board panels. I want to be able to add hooks to hang stuff along the sides. Maybe some chisels, saws, mallets, and screwdrivers.. My goal this year is to organize my workshop.
13 March 2015 at 12:25 am #125561Looks great dborn. And half blind dovetails, too! (We haven’t even learned that yet in WWMC, have we?)
An excellent goal – organization. Most of us could make that a continual process. Especially in a very small shop.
Thanks Matt!!
Tool chest episode 14, I think, Paul demonstrates how too build drawers with half blind dovetails. I always fear my dovetails are too tight and will split the pun board, then I pare them to much. Something that just going to have to come with time and experience for me.13 March 2015 at 1:37 am #125568Nicely done Dan! Clean work all around.
Drawers are great to have in or under the bench. They quickly become part of the work flow. Once you get used to where everything is at you will reach for things without even thinking. Plus…yours look great.21 March 2015 at 6:32 am #125777I think it looks great! I need to get my stuff better organized like that!
21 March 2015 at 6:59 pm #125796Nice job Dborn, I think under bench storage is the way to go, I enjoy standing at my bench and being able to reach down and select any tools required, Having a dedicated home for all tools makes clearing up at the end of the day so easy
21 March 2015 at 7:07 pm #125798That turned out really well. You’ll soon wonder how you ever got along without it. Nice collection of planes too.
