Just bought a ET Roberts & Lee 22″ Panel Saw off e-bay, looks in a good restoreable state; will see when it arrives. I’ve really enjoyed buying old tools and restoring them I love to wonder about the history and what they have seen in their past.
Anyone have any info on these? Will post any updates on arrival for anyone interested.18 February 2014 at 4:46 am #28001Saw arrived today very pleased its in great condition. I striped it down polished the blade, sharpened and set although in fairness it was fairly sharp on arrival but the blade was very tarnished. Handle has had shellac and wax Finnish applied and the saw works wonderfully.

Cheers
18 February 2014 at 8:31 am #28008It was a rip pattern but wasn’t to regular in its tooth, some angles were noticeably different where I presume it was sharpened with the file at irregular angles if that makes sense. pattern. I’ve managed to sharpen a progressive rip cut pattern into it and it seems to be sawing really nicely.
My first attempt at restoring and sharpening an old saw, I’m very pleased with the result Mr Sellers has placed a lot of confidence in me hopefully Ill keep it in check and not do more than I can deal with 😉I do not know anything about ET Roberts & Lee. All I found was a statement that they made saws from 1908, manufactured carpenter and joinery saws, and were bought by a company who was later bought by Thomas Flinn & Co. in 2008. Thomas Flinn & Co. claims that it is now the only “premium” hand saw manufacturer left in UK.
Looks like you brightened up the plate and the handle very nicely. Well done. May it always cut straight and without effort!
