Hello,
i wonder if i’ve missed something, but it took me very long time to make each of the 4 recesses (16mm deep) required on apron for legs and wedge : the best time i was able to do was 90min for one.
The wood i use is beech, how much time did it take to you ? My chisel and router were sharp.
I’m not the new Sellers, as it took about 15-20 min for the Master in the video.
Hello,
didn’t take the time when I made the recesses in the aprons of my workbench, but it was more likely in the 90min range than in the 15-20min range. The recesses are 17mm deep, but due to the tall aprons (415mm over all, bench top is 133mm thick) 282mm “long” and widening from 151mm to around 180mm. Material of the aprons is relatively dense pine.
Beech is significantly harder than the wood (fir? spruce? pine?) Mr. Sellers used for the workbench in the video. Even more significant is that Mr. Sellers began his career as a woodworker some years before… eg. I was born. 😉 So he surely works much more efficient than we beginners in woodworking.
On the other hand he emphasises regularly that accuracy counts. I’m glad not to hurried with my workbench – so it came out good enough for me to be proud of.
Take your time to work accurately. Speed and efficiency come with practise. 🙂
