Walnut/claro-walnut pencil box

This is my latest dovetail box. I found a cutoff of claro-walnut at woodcraft for $2 and immediately thought it would make a great sliding lid. I’ve made a few things with walnut now and don’t really like the look. It looks a little gray under certain lighting. So the figure of the claro is enough to enhance the boring plain walnut. The claro walnut was really bad for tearout. It definitely taught me the importance of sharp tools.
I’m trying to get a few more boxes made before I take on a tool chest. I’m learning a lot, and am surprised how forgiving dovetails can actually be. Soon hopefully.
