I finally decided to spend a few evenings making this small project. Everything was going great my stool legs are “rounded” but not totally round since this was my first ever attempt to do this type of shaping.
I went to glue in the legs and the saw kerf from my tenon saw closed up so tightly that I couldn’t get the wedge in. I backed out the leg (which was extremely difficult now that there was glue on it and it had been in the hole for a few minutes) and put the leg partway into the hole stuck the tip of the wedge into the cut and drove the leg in the rest of the way. From here I was able to drive the wedge since it was already covered with glue and it was started in the slot.
This didn’t work on my second leg for some reason I just couldn’t get the same system to work. The remaining two I re-cut the slot on my band saw which had a thicker blade than my tenon saw.
It remains to be seen how they will look when cut flush I’m guessing each one will be a bit different looking from each other.
Anyone else experience this?
I liked the project and see myself making a few more in the future but I hadn’t expected this little problem and will probably avoid by using a thicker saw blade in the next one. Or I think maybe not cutting the slot so deep so the pressure of driving the leg won’t force it closed???? Maybe a solid width at the bottom where it’s probably the tightest will help… Not sure
