Finally got around to restoring a couple of eBay finds this weekend.
22” 11 tpi crosscut D8 Disston.
The top horn broke as soon as I took it out of the box. I lightly sanded the plate to remove surface rust, polished the screws and sanded and shellacked the handle. Sharpening and setting and it now cuts like a dream.
Type 13 Stanley number 4 plane.
The tote cracked in half as soon as I removed the screw and it was covered in surface rust. Lots of rust removal revealed a sweetheart blade. Tote repair didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped, but I think I added another good user to the stable.
Well done! Restoring old tools is an awesome way of getting quality tools, with the added benefit of you knowing the tool inside out when you’re done.
Now go build something beautiful with them!
