I see Paul has some white material inlaid in his winding sticks. Anyone have any idea what? I have some basswood I will make into winding sticks, after following his stock prep video. I need something to add to the contrast but not sure what to add. I don’t have anything significantly different in color. Thanks

Paul’s winding sticks have abalone instrument dots as centres, and white pieces of hard plastic inset into the rosewood pieces.

David, I recently made a pair out of birch and maple, if you bevel the top edge of the stick nearest you it helps sighting. Or you can simply take a black sharpie marker and run a black line on the top of the furthest stick.

I made a pair and used blue painter tape on the edges at the ends.  I just needed a contrast material.

Thanks guys. I will make a pair that a slightly pyramid shape, as I see many are. I will use tape, or marker or inlay plastic as needed. Since about everything is made of plastic, I should be able to find something that will work!

Ran across this video about some winding sticks.  Thought I’d share it here.

This guy says he made his by resawing a single piece of wood.
