If you’re in Western Maryland or the surround area, the best place for timber is Hicksville Planing Mill. 14464 Hicksville Road Clear Spring, MD 21722-1240 (301) 842-3474
For anyone in and around the Shropshire / North Wales area I can definitely recommend the following
North Shropshire Timber
Unit 19
Rednal Industrial Estate
West Felton
Oswestry
Shropshire
SY11 4HSThey are a nice little outfit, father and son team I think who sell a good range of domestic hard and softwoods at very reasonable prices.
Another absolute gem that I found is Mostyn Sawmill
Richard Davies
Estate Sawmill
Mostyn Hall
Holywell
Flintshire

They are a wonderful little outfit and all of the wood they sell is harvested from the estate! Again very good prices. They have a limited range but what they have is gorgeous.
The above two places are air dried stock.
I also believe that there is a good place at Whitchurch known as Haydocks with a greater range including exotics, etc. I have no experience with them as yet but will post back when I do.
If you’re near Ipswich, Suffolk, UK then there are 2 suppliers.
Shrublands near Claydon only does green Oak and Larch, so probably good for building a house, but maybe not appropriate for what we would want.Witnesham Saw Mills just north of Ipswich is excellent! They have a limited amount of Walnut which gets snapped up by Russians (very popular in Russia at the moment).
Other than that they have Oak and Sweet Chestnut. Air dried or Kiln dried whatever you preferred. All priced by cubic foot.
Give them your cutting list and they’ll cut it all up for you ready to pick up shortly after. They’re incredibly helpful there. When I went round to check them out they took me on a tour of the whole place and showed me their workshop, mills, kilns, drying stacks… the lot.
Fabulous place.I’m based in Uxbridge (just outside West London) and have this firm: http://www.goldberg.uk.com/index.html
They’re really helpful and friendly but there was a minimum £300 order last time I used them so I had to wait until I needed stock for several projects.
