I’m looking to take a try at turning some rather fat legs for a coffee table from some Maple. The lathe I would be using is an older model ShopSmith. The chisels that came with the second hand purchase are original to the machine and don’t seem up to the task. What are some recommendations for quality chisels for turning that I might purchase?

    Hi Bill
To much to explain in this form. Look for AAW . American As. Of wood turners they will have a listing of turning clubs .you most likely have one near you. Or go to Wood Central.com message board turning. Post a note asking if someone local to you will help. They will respond. If you are in Uk you have the same type of group. . Name do a googl for woodturning
If you get hung up come back here I will get you my email or phone .above all if you don’t have help DONT touch. Laths are great but can be VERY BAD if you don’t know what you are doing .
The clubs love to help new people don’t be af. to ask….
