Hi
I am finding it quite difficult to see the marking lines when say cutting dovetails, has any body in the UK come up with a good type of light that can be adjusted over the vice that does not cause shadows that helps to illuminate the work. I did ask the same question a number of years back and did get responses from several members, the companies for some of the suggestions do no longer seem available and I wonder if there are now LED options that may be betterThanks
David14 October 2015 at 2:20 pm #131303I’m not in the UK but it shouldn’t matter I have over come this difficulty with a head lamp like the ones miners used to wear. I got mine from Lee valley a little annoying but works really well.
14 October 2015 at 3:57 pm #131304I have a small desk lamp from IKA. It has a 1/2 stud on the end to fit it’s base. I put a hole in my bench to put it in, just bend the arm to point light where ever needed.
Frankj14 October 2015 at 5:39 pm #131322Ikea has a flexible light that is nice. The Janslo http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20169658/

Salko I did wonder about a head torch what size of bulb does it have, do the batteries last a reasonable amount of time
Nikon Do you know the model of light you show and where did you buy it fromThanks
15 October 2015 at 12:07 am #131336I use this one:

The magnifier comes in useful. I use the bushing lower down the page so I can move the lamp to wherever I have a dog hole.15 October 2015 at 3:24 am #131346I had time to look at IKEA on line they still have the lamps I bought last year.
They are called work or student lamps, they cost 8.99 to 14.99 US dollars. They are flexible and about 12 inches tall. Some are have a base that it sticks into by a 1/2 inch. Stud. Or they have a spring clamp, that will clamp on a table edge ect.
The bulb is about 2 inch round and very bright, high intensity led . I have two at each lath one at my bench and one at the drill press, the one at my bench also turns to my sharpening station.
I think they are about the best you can do and the cost is low
Good luck
Frankj15 October 2015 at 8:13 pm #131369Hi Frank
Thanks for that I have just looked on line at Ikea here and it looks like they have a good choice of work lights, I will go to the store and have a look at the options16 October 2015 at 8:43 pm #131417I did pick up the work light today from Ikea It is Model Tertial at £8.50 with bulbs an extra £10 for two, I drilled a 13mm hole in the back of my bench to take the stud in the bottom of the lamp.
It certainly helps to see the marking lines of parts held in the vice.
I recon for the money it is very good value
Without you guys input i would never have thought of going to Ikea[attachment file=”40088_PE079702_S3.JPG”]
