I made a workbench a couple of months ago and never posted pictures.
It is based on a design by Bob Lang of Popular Woodworking and I left out some elements, so it is a bit more like one by David Charlesworth.
Anyways, here it is.
The bench is about 6 feet long. It is 37″ high. I was going to make it high and then cut it down to size but I’m OK with the height. It has a front section about 13″ wide, then a 10″ tool trough with removable panels and a 4″ back section.
The legs frames are lag bolted to the top. The stretchers have half-dovetails on the end and are wedged into place.
The top is 4″ thick and has an Eclipse 10″ vise on the front and a 7″ vise on the end.

9 July 2015 at 6:04 pm #128377I remember seeing wedged legs like that in a one of the wood magazines a while back. Have you used it enough to notice how stable it is? That should last you many years. Nice going.
9 July 2015 at 10:50 pm #128382Haven’t seen anything from you (on this topic) since my last post this morning, Jude. Don’t know what could be wrong, but your “Hello … Hello” post got through.
Oh, well. Some of the posts show up in the “Activity” page, but don’t show up here. Some were practically essays.
The bench is based on Bob Lang’s 21st Century Workbench. I omitted the twin-screw vise and I haven’t put on the upper stretcher/apron. The legs are actually quite solid with the wedges so I haven’t felt the need to do any more yet. Maybe if I have to plane up a door or something I’ll want the stretcher or a sliding deadman or something like that.
So, what I have looks most like a design by David Charlesworth.
Here’s the method to doing the legs & stretcher.
Make up a leg frame using 2x4s as the legs and short stretchers.
Measure out for a long stretcher that goes between these two frames and mark out a bare-faced tenon on it. This tenon has one half of a dovetail marked out on it.

Glue the 2×4 to the leg frame. The dado is now enclosed all the way around to form an angled mortise.
