It looks really good Emilio, congratulations! What are you plans for a vise?

A quick release vice is handy but it is no big deal if it is not.28 April 2014 at 8:49 pm #56553Greg, Mark, thank you for your replies!
Well, for the vise I have two solutions in mind:
– A) a “simple” front vise (like one of these ones: http://www.fine-tools.com/spindel.htm);
– B) a “cabinetmaker’s” vise (like one of these ones: http://www.fine-tools.com/schraub.htm).
[are the names correct?]
If A, should I increase the thickness of the apron – adding an extra layer (see drawing “alpha”) – ?
My aprons are only ~30mm thick and are in spruce (quite soft).
I could use a board in oak or beech for the extra layer.If B, I think I should increase the thickness of the bench top in order to install a large vise (see drawing “beta”). My bench top is ~70mm thick and without an additional spacer I could only install a small vise (according to instructions).
Well, actually, I don’t know which is the best solution.
Solution A seems to me easier than solution B and I like the idea to use the extra board on the apron as a long rear jaw.
But Paul uses the “cabinetmaker’s” vise and maybe this is THE answer. 🙂Attachments:
