I’m getting ready for the final assembly on my bench and I had a question about the aprons.
My bench won’t be made to travel like the one Paul makes in the workbench video. As I am gluing up the apron dadoes to the legs, should I still make the wedge, or would it be redundant?
Here’s my bench all glued up. I have to finish the well and plane up the surface tomorrow. You can see the vise in the picture, it’s a Woodriver vise from Woodcraft. They were on sale last month and it fit nicely into my budget. Just need to add the front vise block. I also want to put a finish on the bench, but keep a bit of a natural look. Maybe Danish oil and shellac. If anyone has suggestions on a finish please let me know. Has anyone used a wipe on poly on theirs?
Anyway, should have finished pictures up maybe tomorrow. Thanks for looking.
My bench is finished. It has some minor flaws but I’m quite happy with it. I put the Danish oil on fairly thick on the top so it took a few days to dry. As someone mentioned, above, a bench this size is a bit light, even though it feels pretty solid. So I’m going to do some add-ons to give it some more weight on the bottom half. It’s more or less ready to work though.
Well done Jay. I’m sure you’ll be making all kinds of neat stuff on there for years to come.
Good looking bench Jay! Put it to work for you and enjoy.
